A 48 HOUR FILM COMPETITION
We’re so excited about a brand new initiative here at Southern City, The Southern 48, a 48 Hour Film Competition! This will take place April 29th - May 1st and is open to all CSRA and surrounding country residents. We will have cash prizes as well as food and drink at the kick off and wrap parties! Everyone is welcome, even if you don’t have a team, we can place you with a team. Each team will be given a specific line of dialogue, a prop, and a genre to utilize. FILM FESTIVAL NEWS
The global pandemic caused us to take a forced intermission as our 2020 edition got shut down. The 2021 edition unfortunately could not take place either due to the uncertainty around large gatherings and the planning necessary to pull it off. We were hopeful to bring it back in 2022 but the surge of the Omicron variant would of made us go virtual and after consulting filmmakers, community members, and our board we found that wasn’t a popular option because it takes what makes SCFF so special away, the people. All that to say we are planning and hopeful to come back with SCFF ‘23!
Mission
The Southern City Institute, a 501(c)(3), is dedicated to the education and promotion of the arts by celebrating film through the Southern City Film Festival and Institute. SCFF seeks to create venues in the community to encourage education, artistic expression, and acknowledge emerging filmmakers from around the world and within our community.
Film Festival
"It all starts with an idea"
Southern City was founded in 2015 and hosted its first film festival in the fall of 2016 in Aiken, SC. FilmFreeway awarded the film festival their “Top 100 Best Reviewed Film Festivals in the World” award, which we also received the second year as well! The Southeast is so rich with talent from all mediums that we wanted a place to showcase and celebrate that talent. We firmly believe in our motto ‘It all starts with an Idea’ because we think all great things originally just stem from an idea. We want to see and reward your ideas in the Third Annual Southern City Film Festival in Feb 2023.
Institute
"A place just for you"
We are so excited about the Southern City Institute and how it benefits the local youth and aspiring actors, writers, producers, and filmmakers in the area who have a place to learn and grow in the craft. The Southern City Institute has already worked with hundreds of kids producing over a dozen films!
